What Colleges Look for In Students!

Colleges look at several criteria when choosing students for admission.
Some of the most common elements are:

• Academic record

What courses did you take? How difficult were they? Did you
tackle honors or advance placement classes?

• Grade Point Average (GPA)

Do you have a strong GPA? Were your grades consistent over the years?
Did they improve?

• Class rank

• Standardized test scores (ACT
and/or SAT)

• Extracurricular activities

Were you involved in activities outside the classroom - either in the
community or related to your interests? How long did you participate
and to what extent were you involved? Did you show initiative or hold
leadership positions?

• Recommendations

Did the writer know you personally? What was your relationship with the
writer?
Each school has different entrance requirements, so be sure to check
with the school for the specifics.
