Half time Deferments Override Economic Hardship Deferments

So , this summer I wanted to take an anatomy class online. I have been considering pharmacy school but to get in to the accelerated program I would need to take a few additional classes.

My student loan debt is considerable already but is deferred thanks to an economic hardship deferment (it's sad when having a career as a teacher puts you in the economic hardship category).

So I sign up for the class. Pay cash for the class (I don't need any more student loan debt). Get an A. All is well.

A month down the road I get a bill for my first student loan payment.

WHAT! I thought I was in deferement. Well, apparently, if you take a class while under deferment it cancels that deferment.

I quickly called and had a forbearance applied so I could submit my paperwork for economic hardship.

But , wait, it is now a new school year and a new job put me just over the line to qualify for economic hardship. So....plan B?
